Free For All Friday No 439

Tickets for PlannerCon Europe go on sale this morning. I look forward to seeing a lot of our readers at the conference in Brussels in October.

For more details about Planner Con go to:

It is also Friday so feel free to discuss anything ring bound planner related.  Have a great weekend.

  1. My credit card is whimpering, I bought my plannercon tickets, flight tickets and booked my hotel today! I can't wait to meet up with so many planning people.

I'm curious how everyone plans for travel. I'm using a Van der Spek junior Nomad with my own inserts - one booklet per trip. Of course, there's some overlap with my regular planner (things which have to be done/where I need to be at specific times go there too), but it's been working well for 2 trips so far this year!

    1. This sounds like a good idea. Do you have any pictures?

    2. I have pictures and files! I'll ask Steve if maybe he can upload them here :)

  2. Well, I can't go to Planner Con Europe, didn't even make it to the American one in SF. But enjoy. My question is very specific. Is anyone using a Hobonnichi Weeks with their Personal Planner, say a Malden? And if so, how? I am intrigued by this idea because there are times when even a personal size is too big - yet I want to have forward planning capabilities, so I would only carry the Weeks. Do you just stuff the Weeks in your personal planner? Or do punch ring holes in the Weeks, if so how?

    1. I'm thinking about using the Weeks next year. I use a Filofax Saffiano Compact Zip as my wallet and have seen many people replace the rings (they are removable) with the weeks. I think this would be a good option. But I think I have seen someone on Youtube taking the pages out of the weeks and putting them in their Filofax, so this might be a way for you, too! :-)

    2. Thanks Miss B, I am hoping to find a way to store the Weeks in my Malden, while keeping the notebook intact, so that when I don't want to carry the stuffed personal as an Everyday Carry I can just pullout the Weeks. Also, without buying another binder. I am sure one of those lovely Gillio have a slide in spot, but it is not in the finances right now. I think I will just keep it loose inside.

  3. I use Weeks as my EDC and included both personal and business, lots of lists and lives in my purse. I supplement that with two A6 planners for four major "projects," both pre-loved. The black croco with azalea interior VDS is for my book and blog, and the black epoca Compagna Gillio is for my two part-time jobs. I really wanted to be all in one but I'm about to offer for sale a couple of a5 binders, I just can't take that huge real estate. I really don't need to have four projects with me all the time, but I do need to have my personal and professional calendars with me at all times. I did have a custom binder made for my Weeks in Canada.

    1. Thanks Karen, so do you put your lists in the spare pages of the Weeks? There are a lot of grid pages at the back of the Weeks. This sounds like this is what you do. Or does the custom binder that you had made include additional pages also? Right now my personal Malden serves many roles, including some project management, and lists and general info. I don't need all of that in my EveryDayCarry. But sometimes I want to bring the stuffed Malden with me. So I am trying to figure out how to store the Weeks as a alternate EDC pullout almost.

  4. Note: the hotel rates that Plannercon claim are "reduced" are still much higher than when you book direct. I would advise people to shop around before booking.

    See you there!

    1. I've not done any comparisons, but the rates quoted on the site do include breakfast I think. As a 'Crew' member I'm in the block booking so I haven't needed to book anything yet.

    2. The rates quoted for the Hilton are EUR 183.24 to 203.24, including breakfast at EUR 25. I booked direct for EUR 132 - even without breakfast that's a stiff discount!

By the way Steve, if you're involved in the organisation, can you pass on that the questions that participants are expected to answer to register are very poorly worded, badly structured, intrusive and break EU privacy rules? :-) That needs rethinking- it will put people off. If I hadn't been allowed to state my date of birth as yesterday, I would have bailed out ...
